A study is being undertaken on the role of temples in the
development of healthy families. Yayasan Strategik Sosial (YSS), in cooperation
with the MIC Divisions of Subang and Kuala Langat, is also organising seminars
on the issue.
Dr Denison Jayasooria, YSS Executive Director, said the seminars
would assess the temple’s role in upgrading educational skills of the Indian
community and tackling the social ills faced by families.
The MIC divisions of Kuala Langat and Subang recently
undertook a study on the status
of temples in their respective localities with the co-operation of YSS. The
Kuala Langat Division, which is headed by M. Perumal, surveyed 120 temples while
the committee in the Subang Division, headed by Mr. Krishnan, surveyed 92 temples.
Dr Denison added that the reports on the surveys are being prepared by his
office. He said that while the survey is being conducted, the seminars will
be held. The seminars will cover topics like the temple’s role in enhancing
education, developing family, tackling social problems etc. The seminars were
held in December 2001 in Petaling Jaya and Banting.
