This year 144 Indian students have been offered places to continue their study in form one at Mara Junior Colleges (MRSM). They reported to the ten colleges all over the country on 24 February 2004. These colleges provide the best learning and teaching facilities to the students to equip them brains with the latest skills and knowledge in science and technology. That was why the students and their parents were vying to secure a place in MRSM.

Staying away from their parents and studying in the Malay dominant environment definitely will be a challenge for the Indian students to remain in MRSM at least for three years. These students are prepared to face all the circumstances and interact with the Malay students. They firmly believe that the minority group definitely can be friendlier with the majority group. This is our living style in this country.

Being a small group in the colleges, there should be a strong monitoring and support system to look into their welfare. In this regard YSS has planned to set up a monitoring and support group in each of the 7 MRSM colleges where there are more than 8 Indian students. This group will visit the Indian students regularly to listen to their problems and needs. Then assistance would be provided to solve their problems and fulfil their needs.

The YSS officers will visit them for the first time and after that the local leaders or volunteers will be entrusted to look into their welfare. Besides that regular motivational and cultural seminars will be conducted for them in order to keep abreast with our cultural identity. These seminars would be conducted during the Muslim prayer time on Friday. Experienced and dynamic speakers would be invited regularly to conduct these seminars and sessions.

Other than that an annual camp also will be conducted to shape their personalities and values so that they would have greater confidence and commitments towards their study and also the community. By instilling these values, they would have balanced lifestyle.

In general MRSM colleges will definitely brighten our children's future. Their contributions in science and technology are very important for the development of the community and the country. We hope nothing but the best from the MRSM Colleges.
