YSS Assistant Director, Mr. Barmasevam visit to MRSM Batu Pahat coincided with our visit to MRSM Kuala Lipis. According to him these kids were very close to themselves and some of them attended the same primary school. Mrs. Anjalai, President of Hindu Youth Organisation in Batu Pahat, followed him. She was introduced to the students as the coordinator for follow up programmes.
There are nearly 19 students in Form One and one Form Five girl. Recently, one or two students have been transferred to MRSM Kuala Kubu Bharu. Most of the students are from Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and one from Perak. They also mentioned the same problems as others like food adjustments, cleanliness of the canteen and hostels bathrooms. Since these are common problems everywhere we should practise the element of tolerance. In future, parents should educate their kids to adjust themselves to new environments.
We found that there are two common issues that need to be addressed. Firstly, transport facilities for them to go to nearby temples and secondly the provision of Tamil language class in their respective colleges. However we have arranged transport for them to get to the nearby temple and this task has been assigned to the liaison personnel whom we have appointed at the respective towns.
The students are very eager to learn their mother tongue and they strongly believe that they should take Tamil subject for PMR examination for the very first time in the history of MRSM. We suggested to the students that they must do a collective appeal letter and submit it to the respective colleges and send a copy to YSS to take further action. We got several phone calls regarding this issue and the parents are very supportive and volunteered to lend their hands to make this effort a success in every way. Besides that, the principal of MRSM Batu Pahat suggested that an appeal to MRSM Head Quarters should be done by YSS in order to regulate Tamil classes in all the colleges.
We have visited so far 4 of the colleges with high number of Indian students. We are looking forward to visit the centre at Pontian in the near future. However, various curiosities and doubts that have been raised by various parties before the enrolment have been addressed or are being addressed periodically. We are sure that these colleges are going to produce the future cream of our society in this country.
