On 16th and 17th of June 2007, Yayasan Strategik Sosial (YSS) had successfully organized ‘Project Plus 8 – Training of Trainers” program. There were more than 100 participants from peninsular Malaysia who joined the program, which was conducted by seven facilitators. The program was held at Kolej Kediaman Dua University Malaysia (UM).
In his opening speech, Datuk Dr. Denison elaborated the issue of educational underachievement. He also explained the major component of the program, which is the project itself, the role of the change agents (trainers) and the person that we want to change (underachiever). Datuk Dr. Denison expected to see the project running well and that it brings a positive impact to the student. Besides having Datuk Dr. Denison, everyone in the program was also honoured to have Datuk Thambirajah who gave some words of encouragement to everyone present.
The program started with an introduction led by Mr. Arunagiri. This session gave the opportunity for the participants who come from different places to get to know one another. Participants were also given an overview of ‘Project Plus 8 by Mrs. Jasmine. In this session, participants got a clearer picture of the objectives and purpose of the project.
In the program, the participants were trained on the 14 lesson plans in order to enable the underachievers. The lessons are, Knowing Your Potential, Tapping The Creativity Within You, Believe In Yourself, Managing Self, Setting Your Goals by Mrs. Jasmine, Strengthening Communication With Your Teens, Effective And Innovative Parenting, by Mrs. Jasmine and Mr. Gunah, Interpersonal Skills, Sports and Games, Camp Shine by Mr. James, Technical Skills by Mr. Param, and ICT Skills by Mr. Arunagiri and Mr. Diptiman from NIIT. Besides that, participants were also briefed on project administration for better management process.
In all the sessions, participants responded well and gave full cooperation to the program by participating in the question and answer (Q &A) and games. Participants also willingly took part in the various role playing activities. All these activities have given better understanding and some ideas to be more creative and to make learning interesting for the participants. Many were excited and eager to apply what they had learnt from this program.
In his closing speech, Datuk Dr. Denison emphasized and hoped that all leaders get to know the students very well, always encouraging and be an encouragement to the students and also to get to know the students parents or family.
This program is just a beginning for ‘Project Plus 8’. Thank you to everyone who involved directly or indirectly for making these two days and one night program happen.
