One of them was Mr. Sundram a/l Ammanikam, 50 years old from Layang-layang, Johor Bahru. He works as a research assistant and plays an important role in Malaysia Hindu Sangam as the President of Layang-layang Hindu Sangam and Vice President in Johor state level Hindu Sangam . He has been involved in social work for nearly 18 years. In his view, the TOT program was a well organized program. According to him, it is a breakthrough for YSS as it was able to organize such program. He also said that the program was very good and helpful to prepare group leaders physically and mentally to train the underachievers.
Mr. Segar a/l Kandasamy 43 from Lenggeng, Negeri Sembilan felt that the program worked very well because it gave very clear inputs and guidelines for the group leaders to run Project Plus 8. Further more, he was impressed that very high standard program manuals were provided that it will make preparation easier for trainers to train the underachievers. He wants to run this project under Persatuan Bahasa Tamil and Kelab Bimbingan Dan Kaunseling. As a counseling teacher, he has the opportunity to work with underachievers. Besides that, he also knows many counseling teachers from other schools. So, it is easier for him to track the underachievers and trainers to join the project.
As for Mr. V. Arumugam a/l A. V. Pillai 44 from Karak, Pahang, the program was very good and they have been provided with a very detailed material for them to run the project in their area. He who is a teacher said, the content of the program was practical and very well presented. With his 20 years experience in social work and playing an important role as a President in Biro Pendidikan MIC (Malaysian Indian Congress) in Karak, he has the desire to see underachiever’s life change and they become a better and productive person one day.
There was also feedback from Mr. Nadarajah a/l Marathamuthu 48 who is an insurance agent. He is a member in Hindu Sangam and involved in many social activities such as welfare, counseling, and youth motivation activities. For him, TOT program was excellent. He said that what they gained from the training and what they learnt, they will apply with full commitment just like what Datuk Dr. Denison encouraged them to do. He believed the project will bring an impact to the underachievers. In other words, ‘the program will not become a history but it will create a history’. He also believed, TOT program will definitely lead to the success of Project Plus 8.
Overall, all group facilitators hoped to see at least 20% of the underachievers lives being changed. They also hoped that the project can be continued for few years to allow trainers follow-up on the progress of the underachievers and the changes among them clearly.
