The fourth Project Plus 8 Task Force meeting was held in 10 September 2007. Nine facilitators including the two from the north joined the meeting to share their experiences and discuss the progress of Project Plus 8. The meeting started with a simple dinner at 7.00 pm.
The review of the number of activities carried out showed that Kedah had completed 18 out of 40 activities, Penang 10 out of 40, Perak 58 out of 136, Selangor 74 out of 200, Kuala Lumpur 25 out of 168, Pahang 13 out of 40, Negeri Sembilan 16 out of 88 and Johor 28 out of 96. All together 242 out of 808 (30%) activities have been completed. Twenty five groups haven’t started any activities. However, all facilitators assured that their groups could complete all the activities on time.
There were just a few minor problems faced by some groups in running the activities. In SMK Batang Berjuntai, the Headmaster had not given the approval to run activities in their school. Other than that, SMK Megat Khas received a poor response from the parents where by only 5 parents turned out for parenting activities. However, it was said that different creative approaches can be used to attract the parents to join the parenting activities including creative relationship building approach used in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
In the meeting, Datuk Dr. Denison Jayasooria encouraged every group facilitator to work aggressively and to make sure completing group leaders, speakers and target groups profile, activity reports, articles, Plus 8 powerpoint presentation, activity updates are submitted to YSS on time.
Lastly, Datuk Dr. Denison Jayasooria briefed everyone on the changes in the Project Plus 8 launch. Changes announced included venue and the type of participants. Other details about the launch discussed were presentations, performance, transportation arrangement and programme.
The meeting ended at 10.30 pm. Thanks to all who were present for the meeting especially as they had to go to work the next morning. Special thanks to Datuk Dr. Denison Jayasooria for the continuous encouragement and support.
