The DAGS Convention 2004 is set to become a platform for the sharing of knowledge and experience as well as the fruition of new ideas and motivation for future Demonstrator Applications of innovative information and communications technology (ICT) utilisation in various communities in Malaysia.

Bringing together promoters of some 74 projects, the event, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur today, promises to give an insight on implementation experiences and lessons learnt, their impact and sustainability, and look at the seed funding opportunities.

According to event organiser DAGS Secretariat, apart from acknowledging and giving appreciation to completed DAGS projects, the event is intended to be an avenue for input gathering on how the projects under the scheme can go beyond the pilot stage.

“We will be looking for ides from the anticipated 500 attendees on how the scheme could be improved, critical areas that should be addressed, ideas for new applications… in short, the direction forward for DAGS,” DAGS' manager Badrul Hisham Jaafar tells Computimes .

The convention will be officiated by Science, Technology and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Law Hieng Ding. It will see appreciation certificate presentation to the 36 completed DAGS awards to selected new projects.

Law is also expected to present mock cheques totaling RM19,055,701 to 11 new DAGS recipients, namely MyGFL, Malaysian Tropical Fruit Information System, Grow Portal, Pesarajaya, e-Port Community, i-DEMMOS, e-LAMs, ICT-Manufacturing, SJ2005 e-BizX, e-Upcom and Digital Sports Network.

The official opening of the event's accompanying expo comprising booths featuring DAGS projects is expected to follow.

Event attendees can also join in the three panel discussions – DAGS Projects: Implementation Experiences and Lessons Learnt, which will feature presentations from project promoters Social Digital Inclusion, Economic Competitiveness and e-Public Services; DAGS Projects: Impact and Sustainability, which will feature presentations from community partners; and Seed Funding Opportunities, which will be moderated by a representative from Mimos, which houses the DAGS Secretariat.
